Boudha stupa is located about 11 km from the center and northeastern outskirts of Kathmandu. The stupa is said to entomb the remains of Kassapa Boudha and is one of the largest spherical stupas in Nepal and the world.

The stupa is on the ancient trade route from Tibet which enters the Kathmandu Valley by the village of Sankhu in the northeast corner and continues to the ancient and smaller stupa of Cha-bahi named Charumati Stupa. Tibetan merchants have rested and offered prayers at Boudha Stupa for many centuries.

The stupa was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.

When you enter the gate you automatically feel peaceful looking at the white stupa. It’s a really beautiful place buzzing with people all around. It holds a cultural value and a good tourist destination for a quick round. There are really beautiful restaurants and shops all around. Recommended for a visit.

A Huge Buddha Stupa surrounded by many buddha monasteries. Complete holy surrounding.
Lots of shopping around. Especially of religious nature like books , statues, shops of variety of herbal essence leaves and powders.
Place is always crowded. Worth visiting if you are in this area as a tourist.

One of the biggest Buddhist heritages in Nepal. The aura is truly magical around the place with many monks and tourists roaming the stupa . Lots of good restaurants around the place. You can try the authentic tibetan food around the place. But very bad parking around the area. It would a great addition for proper parking area for the visitors.

I stayed about a kilometre from the stupa for a couple of months (Mid- January through mid-March 2021). Was drawn to the stupa compound every morning and evening. Deeply spiritual, peaceful experience. So much positive youthful energy, lively and genuinely nice people all around.
Lots of placed to have your meals, many options regardless of your budget. Monks feeding pigeons, prayer wheels, meditation centers, prayer rituals. Clicked a million photos here. Colours and moods that take you to another world. Not as commercial or tourist focused as other spots in Kathmandu.
