Swoyambhu

Swayambhunath, commonly known as the Monkey Temple, is one of Nepal’s oldest and most revered Buddhist monuments. Perched atop a hill about 3 km west of central Kathmandu, it offers panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley alongside a unique blend of Buddhist and Hindu traditions. The complex features a white dome stupa, gilded spire, monasteries, shrines, prayer wheels, and historic sculptures, reflecting centuries of Newar craftsmanship. As part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Kathmandu Valley, Swayambhunath remains an active place of worship where pilgrims, monks, and visitors gather throughout the year, making it one of Kathmandu’s most significant cultural and spiritual landmarks.
